Lorcan Dunne, Lecturer in TV Studio and Film Production commented that:

The showcase was a huge success and the turnout was great. All the staff and lecturers that have been involved in the making of these projects are extremely proud of the students and appreciate and acknowledge the time and effort that went into creating them. Each year I am blown away with the talent that we have here in DkIT.”

 Those who attended had the opportunity of experiencing the world premiere of the third year industry standard short fiction films, with themes ranging from the 1960’s moon landing, to the homelessness crisis, mannequins, paranormal activity and grief. There truly was something for everyone in this year's line-up. The audience was also in for another surprise as for the first time this year, fourth year students Major Projects were also screened as part of the showcase, all of varying formats and created with specific TV broadcast slots and funding models in mind. They included a new comedy panel show featuring comedian Joe Rooney, as well as a documentary about the burning of the Wildgoose Lodge near Ardee, a new police drama set in the future and a touching drama exploring the effects of dementia on a family.

Lecturer Sarah McCann from the Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music added:

The annual film showcase is a great opportunity for students to get feedback and recognition from the public for the work they produce throughout their time here at DkIT. This allows students to be more critical and more confident of their work and mimics the environment of a real life film premiere. The feedback from the audience was fantastic, they couldn’t believe the level of standard of the work that our students produced they were truly blown away”

Final year student Stephen King who directed ‘The Wildgoose Lodge Massacre’ documentary said:

The showcase was a great occasion for all of us. We worked so hard all year and it was such an achievement being able to show all of our friends and family our final projects that we created at DKIT."

The School of Informatics and Creative Arts at DkIT has a long tradition of engaging the local community to interact with works produced by students across all programmes from traditional music showcases, concerts, plays and workshops. This allows students to get practical hands on experience to develop their skills.
